All incoming middle and high school students have summer reading requirements due on the first day of classes, August 15, 2024. Please see the detailed list below for individual class reading/novel guidelines. If you have specific questions, please email the teacher listed with the class for further information.
Bible
TCA is excited to share that our school is offering TCA families unlimited access to RightNow Media-the world's largest streaming library of resources that help families live out their faith in every area of life. The extensive library has more than 20,000 videos.
In addition to series on books of the Bible, RNM has videos on marriage, parenting, personal finance, mental health and more. There is a library with over 2,000 safe, entertaining videos for children. Our secondary Bible teachers will begin using videos from RNM this summer to replace some summer reading.

Secondary Summer Reading

Incoming 6th graders will only read one book for English.
- English 6th Grade
Students should select a fiction novel of personal preference with at least 100 pages in length. When school starts in the fall, students will complete a novel review sheet about their novel, which Mrs. Huffman will provide. Students should come to school on the first day of class with their book and be prepared to answer questions about their novels. The novel is required to be age and school-appropriate.

Selected reading should be at or above grade level, have good ethics, be parent-approved, and be TCA school-appropriate. Students should read Great Expectations, by Charles Dickens. This is a long novel (over 500 pages). Please purchase the novel early and annotate it according to the details on the worksheet passed out at the end of the freshman-year English class. (New students may collect a sheet by emailing Mrs. Creacy (ccreacy@tcaeagles.org). The novel will be required to be annotated to accomplish completion and comprehension. The first couple weeks of school will be used for discussions, worksheets, writings, and a test.

Students should read a novel, personal preference (fiction or non-fiction and not any of the novels listed for future classes, please). Make sure the novel is within the guidelines of an acceptable novel. The novel must be at least 200 plus pages in length, and students should be prepared to complete a novel review sheet and discuss the novel in front of the class. Students should read either A Walk in the Woods (1999) by Bill Bryson or The Things They Carried (1990) by Tim O'Brien. During the first week of school, students will bring their books to class, and will develop a response to the nonfiction work they have read, according to several specific criteria.
- ENGLISH III
Students should pick a novel (fiction) by an American author; it may be from the 19th, 20th, or 21st century, and it must be at least 200 plus pages in length. When we begin school in the fall, students will complete a Novel Review sheet about their novel, which Mrs. Day will provide and which requires them to answer questions about the literary features of the novel they have read.
